Covered almost completely by the western
bulk of the Great Forest, the Kingdom of Lorn is, alas, the only surviving
elfin land. Its size matches that of Ruûn, the eldest human
kingdom and ancient seat of Baûl’s terrible empire. The lands
loyal to the Lornian crown stretch from the western arm of the Mountains
of the Unknown, which the elfin peoples call the Ire-dae, to the shores
of the Ocea Primum; and from the borderlands of Kizle and the River Pô
to the Jagged Mountains and dismal swamp that form the northern border
of Armaugh, the land of the city-states.
The elfin peoples do not
congregate themselves nearly as much as humans. Hence, Lorn is riddled
with small hamlets and vales of perhaps ten to twenty families that do
not appear on the scale of the map supplied. Also, even the largest
elfin cities are not nearly the size of their human counterparts.
For example, the Stephenian city of Nyr Kôhpitol is a metropolis
of more than 100,000 inhabitants; in comparison, Mercer, the largest Lornian
city is home to only 70,000. Still, the age of the Kingdom of Lorn
has allowed quite a few large cities to develop within her borders.
Each city or town has a mayor appointed by King Hælor himself. |
