To refer to Alina as a planet is something of a misnomer; in truth, Alina the world is a gigantic boat, akin to a moon-sized spell-jamming ship that floats this way and that according to its own – or its Creator's – whim.  Far from being simply an enormous ship, Alina is very much alive, comprised of several magical and sentient beings: Gaia, the earth, Luna, the moon, and Sol, the sun.  Nuin-covl (NEW-een-KO-vl), an ancient elfin name for the sky, is actually the ship's “sail”, and is, in fact, inanimate and non-sentient – a peculiar exception from a world steeped in magic.
Though a relatively young world in the cosmic sense, Alina is ancient even to its older elfin inhabitants: some 5000 years to be more precise.  This is practically eons in human terms, although humans have only lived on Alina for the past 1500 years or so.  Due to its age, Alina has towering mountains and sweeping, ancient forests.  There are certainly vast areas that have never seen any real sentient inhabitation.  Alina was designed by an elf – the Kyie – and thus is a world of breath-taking beauty.  Alina is fully alive, and is more akin to an intricately woven tapestry than a mere painting.  Wilderness dominates most of the magical planet; the elves have left most of Gaia absolutely pristine.  Deep, ancient forests or wide and savage plains sit at the very fringes of the ever-expanding humanity, untamed jungles and towering mountains claim vast areas as there sole keep and burning deserts sprawl carved and polished by wicked winds.
